What to Expect

Each maths lesson lasts one hour. This is at least 50 minutes of instruction and practice with 10 minutes for settling, discussing homework, recapping on previous lessons etc.

30 minute sessions are available for younger students.

Students will be assessed (usually on the first tutoring session) so that their individual needs, strengths and weaknesses can be understood. Assessment can be done through a test, discussion, school work and past tests (if they can be provided). We will construct a plan where we can concentrate on each area of maths in which the student struggles.

Lessons are planned in advance, tailored for each student covering topics flexibly as necessary to cover gaps in knowledge and provide extra practice. I am happy to change the lesson to incorporate any issues that have come up in their school maths lessons and give them advice on their homework (but not doing homework for them!)

Due to restrictions imposed because of COVID all lessons are currently online only.

Students' Responsibilities

The best way to learn is if the student takes responsibility for their own learning. This means bringing questions and topics for discussion to the lesson, working hard in their own study time and aiming high!

Students will be given a homework task after each lesson to consolidate the learning, which should be completed for the following session for marking and feedback.

Goals

My aim is for every student I tutor to leave with more confidence and understanding in maths. Most students attend with a target grade they want to achieve in an exam and we will work together to help them reach their goals.

Groups

Although I mainly offer private tuition, I am aware that some students work best with others and so if there are two students of a similar ability who work well together, I am happy to teach both together, at a discounted price.
